San Miguel de Marilao Multi-Purpose Cooperative (SMMMPC) formerly San Miguel de Marilao Credit Cooperative (SMMCC), was conceptualized in March 1993 under the joint persevering efforts of then Parish Priest of St. Michael the Archangel Rev. Fr. Mariano S. Sanchez, Jr. and the ever supportive current active member Bro. Dominador “Domeng” Gonzales. On April 26, 1993, 22 cooperators were given pre-membership education seminar (PMES) at the Parish Convent by CDA Representative Bro. Benefico “Benny” Blones, after which seminar was conducted, said cooperators have agreed to contribute each other equally the amount of P1,000.00 as initial share-capital to form SMMMPC.
On July 20, 1993, the same cooperators convened a meeting among themselves to elect the first set of Board of Directors. Then, Bro. Pedro “Pete” C. Peña was unanimously chosen Chairman of the Board. During the said meeting, the directors agreed and resolved to charge P100.00 membership fee and a minimum P500.00 share capital for a new member who would want to join SMMMPC.
On July 22, 1993, SMMMPC was registered with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) under Reg. No. PGA-1102. Having accumulated sufficient capital at that time, the cooperative started granting loans thrice the member’s share capital.
This encouraged more people to join in the Cooperative movement causing a dramatic increase in share capital structure. August 15, 1993, its conducted its first PMES wherein it was attended by 26 new members. Since then and even now, San Miguel de Marilao Multi-Purpose Cooperative hold its PMES every first Saturday of the month. At the end of 2011, SMMMPC has a total of 1,690 active members.
